SANA’s team returned to Aabdeh today for a medical/educational mission with Medecins Sans Frontieres. Accompanying SANA was Esperance El Awad, MD a 2nd year Ob/Gyn resident at the Lebanese University.
Â
The day was packed with patients who ranged in age between 17 and 38 years. A third were on their first pregnancy. SANA carried out full evaluations on the patients and they were all scanned by trainee Esperance under the guidance of SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum. Having worked on SANA’s simulator as well as in the outreach with SANA, Esperance demonstrated much skill and ease in scanning the patients, ascertaining anatomy and confirming placental location.  She redated 25% of the patients seen.
Â
MSF’s midwife Zeinab was with SANA’s team and she was instrumental in making all the necessary arrangements for the patients who needed them.

At the end of another rewarding day, the team headed back home and plans were made for the next visit with MSF…
