SANA Returns to Abu-Samra with Medecins Sans Frontieres 18 April 2017

SANA returned to Dar AL Zahra’ in Abu-Samra today for a medical/educational mission with Medecins Sans Frontieres. Accompanying SANA was trainee Nada Al Ghoul, a 4th year midwifery student at the Lebanese University.

It was another intense day for SANA’s team as they provided comprehensive prenatal care to a multitude of patients ranging in age between 17 and 48 years. SANA carried out full assessments on the patients and they were all scanned by trainee Nada under the guidance of SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum in accordance with the 6-Step Approach. This was Nada’s first experience carrying out scans on patients as she had only worked on the simulator before. She demonstrated excellent recognition of fetal anatomy and key anatomic landmarks, placed the calipers perfectly and her biggest challenge was obtaining the plane of the BPD.  SANA redated 36% of the patients seen.

MSF’s midwife Louiis never left SANA’s team and she provided all needed medications and followups for the patients.

At the end of another rewarding day, the team headed back home and plans were made for the next visit with MSF…
