SANA’s team carried out its 6th medical mission today to Tal Hayat, in the heart of the Akkar Valley, in collaboration with SANA’s most able partners: the team of World Vision Akkar (www.worldvision.org.lb).

And with it being apple harvest time, SANA’s team travelled alongside roads packed by apple sellers who proudly displayed their gorgeous fruit, and graciously agreed to being photographed by SANA…

On the occasion of October being breast cancer awareness month, the main theme for today’s educational session was breast health where breast feeding was discussed at length, in addition to instructing the attendees on the breast self exam and how to recognize concerning signs. The role of mammography in screening for breast cancer was presented, and educational pamphlets put forth by the Lebanese Ministry of Health were distributed as well…

Today’s mothers were young, none older than 31, a third of whom were on their first pregnancy, and half of them have had no prenatal care or a maximum of 1 prenatal visit thus far. In addition to the routine prenatal care, the patients were scanned and SANA re-dated 25% of the patients seen, and identified one patient with polyhydramnios (access amniotic fluid) and arrangements were made for further workup and care of the patient.
