On one of the hottest record days in Lebanon, SANA’s team returned to Dar Al Zahra’ in Abu-Samra today for a medical/educational mission with Medecins Sans Frontieres. Accompanying SANA was trainee Marie Andary, a 4th year midwifery student at the Lebanese University.
It was another busy day with a packed clinic where SANA’s team provided comprehensive prenatal care to a multitude of patients ranging in age between 15 and 30 years. In addition, SANA carried out full assessments on the patients and they were all scanned by trainee Marie under the guidance of SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum in accordance with the 6-Step Approach. Marie had previously worked on SANA’s SonoSim simulator and this was her first hands-on experience carrying out scans on patients. She was able to carry out the first 5 steps and progressively improved in the ability to identify key anatomic landmarks.
As always, MSF’s midwife Louiis accompanied SANA’s team and provided invaluable assistance helping arrange follow ups for the patients and providing them with the needed medications.
At the end of another rewarding day, the team headed back home and plans were made for the next visit with MSF…
