SANA’s team headed back to Aabdeh today for a medical mission at Medecins Sans Froontieres’ clinic there.

 

The clinic was bustling with patients who ranged in age between 16 and 35 years. The majority were between the 5^th and 6^th month of pregnancy. As usual, SANA carried out full evaluations on the patients inclusive of obstetrical sonography. All patients were scanned by SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum in accordance with the 6-Step and 3-Sweep approaches. She redated 29% of the patients seen.

 

SANA extends its heartfelt appreciation to MSF’s midwife Zeinab accompanied the team, organized all appointments and made the necessary follow up for the patients.

 

At the end of another rewarding day, the team headed back home and plans were made for the next visit with MSF…

On its first mission during the Holy Month of Ramadan, SANA returned to Orange Nassau Governmental Hospital in Tripoli today for a medical educational mission with SANA’s trainee, Midwife Nariman, the obstetrical charge nurse at the hospital.

 

Despite the hot day and it being the Holy Month of Ramada, the clinic was packed as usual. Comprehensive obstetrical care was provided by SANA’s team to the patients and all patients were scanned by Midwife Nariman under the guidance of SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum. All patients today were between their 5th to 8th months of pregnancy. They ranged in age between 17 and 37 years. Many were on their first pregnancy and several were advanced maternal age mothers with complex past obstetrical histories. Nariman demonstrated marked improvement and skill as she scanned the patients in accordance with the 6-step approach. Follow ups were arranged for the patients as indicated.

SANA returned to Dar Al Zahra’ in Abu-Samra today for a medical/educational mission with Medecins Sans Frontieres. Accompanying SANA was trainee Mariam Al Isber, a 4^th year midwifery student at the Lebanese University.

 

The day was particularly busy as it was the last week before the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan. SANA’s team provided comprehensive prenatal care to a multitude of patients ranging in age between 15 and 30 years. In addition, SANA carried out full assessments on the patients and they were all scanned by trainee Mariam under the guidance of SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum in accordance with the 6-Step Approach. This was Mariam’s first experience carrying out scans on patients as she had only worked on the simulator before. She was able to carry out the first 5 steps with ease and progressively improved in the ability to identify key anatomic landmarks. In addition, she could place the calipers perfectly.

 

MSF’s midwife Louiis accompanied SANA’s team and as always, she provided all needed medications and followups for the patients.
