SANA’s Returns to Dahieh 13 March 2018

SANA’s team returned to Dahieh today for another medical/educational mission at the health dispensary of “Aamel Organization”. Accompanying SANA was Dr. Maha Ayoubi, a 3rd year Ob/Gyn resident at the Lebanese University.

 

As is customary, there were several patients waiting for SANA today and they were all between their 4th and 7th months of pregnancy. They ranged in age between 17 and 38 years, and 57% were on pregnancy 4 or more. Dr. Maha showed marked ease and comfort in her scanning abilities as she carried out the 6-Step and 3-sweep approaches, under the guidance of SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum. In addition, she was able to obtain the majority of the anatomic planes ascertaining the presence and normal appearance of the various fetal organs. SANA redated 43% of the patients seen.

 

A special thank you to Levant Alie Houses SAL and Mr. Dory Mansour for providing all the supplements today.

 

At the end of a gratifying day, the team headed back home and plans were made for the next visit to Dahieh…

 

SANA’s Team Returns to Jabal Al Biddawi 6 March 2018

SANA’s team returned to Jabal Al Biddawi today on a medical and educational mission at the health dispensary of “Amani Organization”. Accompanying SANA was trainee Dr. Lara Osmani, an Ob/Gyn resident at the Lebanese University.

 

As usual, Midwife Ibtisam Seif was waiting for SANA’s team and had arranged for a packed organized clinic. The patients today were between their 5th to 6th months of pregnancy. They ranged in age between 17 and 34 years. Both Midwife Ibtisam and Dr. Lara were pretty advanced in terms of the 6-step approach and hence the concentration today was on the 3-sweep approach to properly scan the fetus for malformations and identify all key anatomic structures. It was amazing to see their skill improve with each scan and how they assisted on another in carrying out all the probe manipulations…

At the end of a most rewarding day, the team headed back home and plans were made for the next visit to Jabal Al Biddawi.

 

SANA and Hopital Aboujaoude Hold the Seventh Session for the Resident Training Course in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound, in Cooperation with ISUOG, 20 January 2018

SANA returned to Hopital Aboujaoude for the seventh session of the Resident Training Course in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound in cooperation with ISUOG, structured in accordance with ISUOG Basic Training Guidelines (BT).

 

Today’s session commenced with an overview of the “practical” portion of the course and the images that the trainees are still required to submit. In addition, plans for the subsequent session, with an intense cardiac session with Dr. Daou, were discussed.

 

Subsequently, 5 videos of ISUOG BT lectures were shown and discussed. The primary topics covered were the fetal heart, abdomen, pelvis and skeletal system.

 

After the lectures, several of the trainees chose to practice on the SonoSim simulator.

 

At the end of the day, the team adjorned awaiting the last theoretical session which shall address gynecology…

SANA’s team returned to Dahieh today for another medical/educational mission at the health dispensary of “Aamel Organization”. Accompanying SANA was Dr. Maha Ayoubi, a 3rd year Ob/Gyn resident at the Lebanese University.

 

The patients seen today were between their 5th to 8th months of pregnancy. They ranged in age between 23 and 36 years old, and 67% were on pregnancy 4 or more. Dr. Maha showed remarkable improvement in her scanning abilities as she carried out the 6-Step approach, under the guidance of SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum. In addition, she was abale to obtain the majority of the anatomic planes ascertaining the presence and normal appearance of the various fetal organs. SANA redated 22% of the patients seen.

SANA and Hopital Aboujaoude Hold the Sixth Session for the Resident Training Course in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound, in Cooperation with ISUOG 13 January 2018

It was the first meeting of 2018 at Hopital Aboujaoude for the sixth session of the Resident Training Course in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound in cooperation with ISUOG, structured in accordance with ISUOG Basic Training Guidelines (BT).

 

Today’s session commenced with a multiple choice examination that the residents took to assess their retention of the theoretical material that has been covered thus far in the curriculum. This shall reflect their retention at 4 months given the last theoretical session was held in September. Subsequently, the image requirements were reviewed particularly since the consensus report on obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound curriculum and competency assessment in residency training program has just been published.

 

Subsequently, 5 videos of ISUOG BT lectures were shown and discussed. The primary topics covered were the 20 +2 planes, longitudinal planes, the fetal brain, the fetal face and the fetal neck and chest.

 

Various issues were discussed with the trainees in preparation for course completion in the next few months and the date was set for the next session…
