SANA and Hopital Aboujaoude Hold the Fifth Session for the Resident Training Course in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound, in Cooperation with ISUOG, 5 August 2017

SANA carried out the fifth session of the Resident Training Course in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound in cooperation with ISUOG, structured in accordance with ISUOG Basic Training Guidelines (BT), Hopital Aboujaoude.

 

Today’s session commenced with a discussion of the future sessions, the critique of the images that the residents have uploaded thus far and future involvement with SANA on Outreach Missions. Then Dr. Helou gave a recap of the challenging topic of Doppler and its clinical applicability in Obstetrics.

 

Subsequently, 2 videos of ISUOG BT lectures were shown and discussed. The primary topics covered were ultrasound use in labor and how to write a sonographic report. The selected lectures had been presented by Drs. Abu-Rustum and Eggebo at various ISUOG BT courses in the past 2 years.

 

At the conclusion of the session, a demonstration using LiveScan was carried out highlighting techniques and the key anatomic and biometric planes. Plans were made for a future session with the trainees and their primary concentration at the moment is collecting their images.

 

SANA with Medecins Sans Frontieres in Aabdeh 1 August 2017

SANA’s team returned to Aabdeh today for a medical/educational mission with Medecins Sans Frontieres. Accompanying SANA was trainee midwife Nariman.

 

It was another high risk clinic where SANA’s team provided comprehensive prenatal care to a multitude of patients ranging in age between 16 and 34 years. In addition, SANA carried out sonographic assessments on the patients and they were all scanned by trainee midwife Nariman under the guidance of SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum in accordance with the 6-step approach. Nariman showed skill and dexterity and even diagnosed a set of twins. SANA redated 13% of the patients seen today.

 

As always, MSF’s midwife Zeinab accompanied SANA’s team and helped make all the necessary arrangements and follow ups for the patients and provided them with the needed supplements.

 

At the end of another rewarding day, the team headed back home and plans were made for the next visit with MSF…

 

SANA with Medecins Sans Frontieres at DAZ 25 July 2017

SANA’s team returned to Dar Al Zahra’ in Abu-Samra today for a medical mission with Medecins Sans Frontieres.

 

It was another packed clinic where SANA’s team provided comprehensive prenatal care to a multitude of patients ranging in age between 15 and 36 years. In addition, SANA carried out full assessments on the patients and they were all scanned SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum. SANA redated 44% of the patients seen today.

 

As always, MSF’s midwife Louiis accompanied SANA’s team and helped arrange follow ups for the patients and provided them with the needed supplements.

 

At the end of another rewarding day, the team headed back home and plans were made for the next visit with MSF…

 

SANA and Hopital Aboujaoude Hold the Fourth Session for the Resident Training Course in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound, in Cooperation with ISUOG, 22 July 2017

It was back to Hopital Aboujaoude for the fourth session of the Resident Training Course in Ob/Gyn Ultrasound in cooperation with ISUOG, structured in accordance with ISUOG Basic Training Guidelines (BT).

 

Today’s session commenced with a review of the sonographic images that the residents have been uploading to DropBox as part of their “logbook” upkeep. The images are being commented on individually and the entire group has access in order to learn from each other and all the comments by the instructors.

 

Subsequently, 4 videos of ISUOG BT lectures were shown and discussed. The primary topics covered were quality assurance, basics of Doppler as to when and how it should be used and finally the evaluation of fetal growth abnormalities. The selected lectures had been presented by Drs. Bilardo, Eggebo, Hyett and Salomon various ISUOG BT courses in the past 2 years. In addition, clinical correlations were highlighted with the trainees.

 

At the conclusion of the session, one of the trainees stayed on to work on the Simulator prior to commencing the long journeys home in the horrific July traffic…

 

SANA’s Team Back to Kfaribnine18 July 2017

On a hot midsummer’s day, SANA’s team travelled to the cool Dinnieh mountians, to the health department at the Municipality of Kfaribnine today for a medical mission.

 

SANA’s team carried out full assessments on the patients inclusive of sonographic evaluation. Today’s patients ranged in age between 20 to 47 years. Most were in the 4th to 9th month of pregnancy, 22% were  on their first pregnancy, 33% were on pregnancy 4 or more, and 33% had had no prenatal care or a maximum of 1 prenatal visit thus far. SANA redated 33% of the patients seen.

And at the end of another rewarding day, SANA made plans for the next visit to Kfaribnine and the team headed back home…
