SANA Returns to Aabdeh with MSF 5 April 2016

SANA returned to Aabdeh today for a medical/educational mission with MSF. Accompanying SANA was Dr. Ghina Mahmoud, a 4th year Ob/Gyn resident at the Lebanese University.

The clinic was filled with patients who waited patiently to be seen by SANA’s team. The patients ranged in age between 17 and 36 years.

Dr. Ghina systematically scanned the patients, properly holding and manipulating the probe, and adhering to ISUOG’s 6-Step approach. Though many patients were in the early second gestation, she managed to adapt quickly and demonstrate what is needed in those young fetuses. In addition, several patients were in the late third trimester and again, Dr. Ghina skillfully obtained all the biometric measurements and corrected dates for 57% of the patients under the guidance of SANA’ Dr. Reem.

There many patients in need of special medical followup for various medical conditions and arrangements were organized by the able MSF team.

And at the end of a rewarding day, the team headed back home and the dates were set for the next visit with MSF.

SANA Completes its Didactic Sessions at the Lebanese University 18 February 2016

SANA returned to the Lebanese University today for the 7th and final didactic session to the midwifery students.

The day commenced with midwifery student Hibah Moukresh sharing her personal scanning experience this week with SANA. Then midwifery student Mirvat discussed with her classmates her clinic visit this week where a fetal anomaly was detected. Her impressions on the counseling and management left a great impact. Then, it was Hajar who shared with them her packed SANA day and how she put into practical use all that she had learned this course.

Subsequently the final session focused on early gestation, fetal evaluation in the first trimester at 11-14 weeks and the basics of the gynecological exam. Course evaluations were filled out by the students prior to taking their final written examination.

At this stage, all students have completed the didactic training and now will be spending hands-on training time with SANA over the next few months in preparation for a practical examination.

It was bittersweet moment for the team as truly this class left a huge impact with SANA’s Reem S. Abu-RUstum. All were in agreement that this was a most beneficial course that needs to be integrated at earlier stages to the junior colleagues. SANA’s Reem S. Abu-Rustum told the students that the doors are ALWAYS open for them to work on their practical skills for future ISUOG certification…
